Sky Gardens, Public Spaces and Urban Sustainability in Dense Cities: Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Singapore

This paper studies the spatial characteristics of sky gardens as public spaces to explore their potential support urban sustainability in dense cities. research understands that are open and available different levels access use. The focuses on 982 Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Singapore. It adopts a mixed methodology, including site visits observations, statistic measurements (based SPSS software), Grey Relation Analysis (GRA) methods. follows three steps: first, it context, density, land uses, policy regulations regarding sustainability. Second, examines gardens’ terms form (morphology, typology, size, affordances, configuration), openness quality (accessibility, ownership, permeability), geometry (open space ratio, height space-to-building, void-to-solid shape index). Third, compares findings case cities discusses results suggest despite limitations gardens, they may play, degrees, fundamental roles high-density environments supporting cities’ High-density offer more opportunities for sustainable development which creates new paradigm compact vertical greenery
